After being found 10 miles from home, this anxious runaway shelter dog has finally been reunited with her pawrent, says: ‘I have had such a heavy heart ever since she went missing, but now I'm finally looking forward to waking up to her in the morning.’

There is no telling what will happen when you bring an adopted doggo into your home. It is impossible to tell how they will interact and react to your environment and moreover how their behavior will develop over time. But one thing that even the most experienced pawrent would not perhaps expect is their newly adopted doggo rushing the door as they try to enter their home and making a break for it.

Now, dogs are not exactly known for running away on purpose. After all, they all typically prefer the pampered life they have with us hoomans. But when a dog is fresh out of the shelter, they are still getting their bearings and slightly bouncing off the walls so it is not all too surprising when they do something outlandish. It's just that you are more likely to expect them to go potty on the carpet or chew a sofa than charge at you and run away. But that's life as they say.

Thankfully,this story still has quite the happy ending thanks to a local vet who happened to see the pupper prancing around their area and figured it was a lost pupper who needed help getting home. And because his new pawrent had been so responsible this doggo had all the pertinent contact information on her collar in case someone needed to call her mom, and call her they did. This story goes to show that there is no such thing as pawfect pawrenting. The unknown factor in this relationship, our doggos, means that we are always on our toes, trying to do our best.

Ok well, that is quite a lot to unpack. But let’s start with the fact that for several days and over several interactions animal control failed to mention that this pup had an expensive diagnosis that was going to need treatment. Like, how much of a hack can you be that you furget to mention something like that until the very moment someone picks up their pup? Though that is giving these people the benefit of the doubt, they could just as well have withheld the information to make sure the pup is taken and not left behind.

Oh no, this is heartbreaking. The mix of morose emotions that this poor hooman must have been feeling is truly not something to envy. How are you meant to deal with such a situation? You’ve spent time, energy and most importantly love on this dog and now they are gone. You begin to question if you had done something wrong, if you could have been better to them. But the sad fact is that this likely has nothing to do with you. It is much more likely to be a series of intrusive doggo thoughts with a lack of emotional regulation and poof, the dog is gone.
